Press Release - Exhibition 'Pure Space' Sept 30th 2004
Andy Sykes is an animator and illustrator from Leeds. He recently graduated from BA (Hons) Interactive Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University. Andy has also exhibited internationally in Rotterdam in May 2003 and at Dry Bar and Font Bar in Manchester. His short film, 'The Bad Mouse' was shown at 'KinoFilm': the 8th Manchester International Short Film and Video Festival in October 2003. Andy's video work will also be shown in Liverpool in September as part of the Liverpool Biennale 04.
Andy's work is honest and direct, often using painful experiences as a source of self deprecating humour. Andy's illustrations, which developed as an outlet for anxiety, attempt to capture whimsical ideas and fleeting thoughts that might otherwise be forgotten. He hopes that sharing these ideas is comforting to others and will make them laugh.
The exhibition at Pure Space café bar is an
attempt to place Andy's work in an environment in which it can infiltrate
other people's fleeting thoughts as they eat, drink and socialise.
